IN THE NEW THINK TANK SPACE IN MONOPOLI
Friday 15th October 2021 at 7 pm the new Think Tank space (previously a fuel storage) in Monopoli will open to the public , as the result of a collaboration with the Pino Pascali Foundation, the Municipality of Monopoli and the Apulian Public Theatre, and will present the exhibition Meditazioni Mediterraneo (Mediterranean Meditations) by Studio Azzurro.
As Studio Azzurro explains, the exhibition “ is the result of a journey through a geographical area made particularly rich by the extraordinary and tormented charm of its territory and by a cultural heritage derived from the interesting mix of ethnicities, religions and customs of all the different people that share this portion of the sea. It is, in fact, remarkable how this sense of beauty, warmth, intimacy and spontaneity can manage to emerge above a volcanic temperament made of conflicts and tragedies, differences and antagonisms. It is an art of living that can be shared with the rest of the world”.
The exhibition is an interactive installation titled Il confine dei corpi (Body Boundary), a geographical map of the Mediterranean that is reminiscent of the poetical inaccuracy of the old portolan charts: by walking on the installation, the viewer will reveal the hidden message of the artwork, in an evocative relationship between map and body. The artwork is accompanied by I sette cavalletti in legno (The Seven Wooden Easels), different from each other and extremely evocative, they mark the space and beat the rhythm of the visitor’s steps, who slowly moves from the sensor mat to the “theatre of artisan acts”. The itinerary through the exhibition ends with Il colore dei gesti (The Colour of Acts), evocaitve of the old and contemporary wisdom of master craftsmen. As the artists explain: “We have met about one hundred craftsmen during our journey along the coasts of the Mediterranean Sea for the realization of the project ‘Meditazioni Mediterraneo’ (Mediterranean Meditations). Each one of them is portrayed in their own space, their hands in the foreground, and shares with others their tale of acts and sounds produced while giving shape to their artefacts”.
